Camille is a Partner at Winter & Co. She specialises in all aspects of shipping contractual work (contentious and non-contentious), including Charterparty, Bill of Lading, construction and ship sale and purchase.

Her Charterparty expertise includes underperformance issues, unsafe port claims, demurrage disputes, off-hire, cancellations, in relation to different types of vessels (including bulk carriers, tankers, LPG carriers, yachts and container ships). She has handled numerous cargo claims under both bills of lading and charterparties (including advising on the operation and application of the Inter-Club Agreement and of the Hague/Hague-Visby Rules). She has been involved in large shipbuilding disputes (including disputes relating to guarantees), several liquefaction cases, and large casualties and advised extensively on the Limitation Convention 1976.

During her career, she has acted for shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, P&I and FD&D insurers, ship buyers and sellers. Camille has a wide range of experience in various forms of dispute resolutions, including Early Intervention Procedure and traditional mediations (a topic on which she has written for the LMAA Law review).

During her career, Camille has gained a wealth of experience in London Arbitration (including LMAA and LCIA Arbitrations) and the English Courts (including the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court). Recent highlights include the following:

  • Successfully obtaining permission to appeal the Arbitration Award in The Alpha Harmony [2019] EWHC 2522 (Comm) (a case which concerned the question of the validity of a NOR for purposes of the operation of the cancelling provisions), on behalf of the successful Owners.
  • Representing the successful intermediate carrier in Weco Projects APS v Loro Piana and Others [2020] EWHC) 2150 (Comm) (a case which concerned, in particular, the interaction of an exclusive jurisdiction provision with the Brussels Regulation Recast).
  • Representing the successful intermediate charterers in The Ocean Victory [2017] UKSC 35 (a case which raised issues relating to safe ports, subrogation and limitations).
  • Advising buyers in respect of a dispute for US$82 million with a Chinese shipyard for failure to take delivery.
  • Advising time charterers in respect of a dispute with owners regarding liability for COVID-19-related expenses for around US$360,000.
  • Advising Owners in respect of a cargo claim and charterparty recourse relating to a project cargo valued at over €5,000,000.
  • Advising a major P&I insurer on the effect of Brexit on the enforceability of judgments and of exclusive jurisdiction clauses.
  • Advising shipowners, charterers and P& I insurers in respect of the Ukraine/Russia conflict.
  • Advising intermediate time charterers in respect of damage to a cargo of steel coils (including issues relating to the issue of clean bills of lading).
  • Advising shipowners on liquefaction issues.

Camille has given a number of seminars to Clients (including Skuld, CPI, COSCO and Spliethoff), on issues including principles of English contract law and common issues in Charterparty disputes (including safe ports, limitations, underperformance, COVID-19, War Risks and Sanctions).

Before joining Winter & Co, Camille worked for several years at a leading boutique London maritime law firm, where she completed her training contract and qualified in November 2017.
